Get your power back.

Counseling for childhood sexual abuse in Houston, Texas

“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

–James Baldwin

Your child has been sexually abused and your world has been turned upside down. You are angry. Horrified. And feeling betrayed. You're trying to manage your feelings while supporting your child and it's leaving you feeling overwhelmed. You are anxious about responding in the “right” way and you’re feeling lost and not sure how to help your child. Your child won’t talk to you about it and is struggling. They are having a hard time sleeping, frequent nightmares, are afraid to be alone, and are a shell of their former selves. You are desperate for help for your child.

Or you may be an adult who’s experienced childhood sexual abuse and blame yourself for all the things that happened to you that you couldn’t control. You’ve spent years blocking it out, pushing it down, trying not to think about it or talk about it. But you can only avoid it for so long. Your relationships are suffering, it’s hard for you to see your value or worth, the shame is unbearable and you’re having a hard time stepping into the life you envisioned for yourself. It doesn’t have to be this way. What happened to you doesn’t have to define you.

Healing Hearts Psychotherapy, PLLC can help.

We are passionate about working with children, teens and adults who’ve experienced childhood sexual abuse. We provide an atmosphere of unconditional positive regard, empathy, and trust that allows you to share your story without fear of judgment. Here at Healing Hearts Psychotherapy we recognize that parents are the expert on their children and as such we partner with parents to collaboratively help their child. We utilize play therapy and other expressive arts to help clients express their thoughts and feelings, explore relationships, describe experiences and disclose wishes. We may also use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-TF-CBT (an evidence-based treatment approach shown to help children, adolescents, and their parents overcome trauma-related difficulties). Using TF-CBT we help clients learn skills to cope with the sexual abuse, face and resolve the sexual abuse and symptoms, as well as effectively reconnect those parts of themselves that were changed or destroyed as a result of the sexual abuse so that they can progress through life in a safe and positive manner.

Every ones healing process is unique. Healing Hearts Psychotherapy, PLLC is committed to providing treatment that is individualized and tailored to your specific needs. Childhood sexual abuse can leave you feeling powerless, unheard, and unseen. We are committed to helping you speak your truth and get your power back on YOUR OWN TERMS. You don’t have to do it alone, Healing Hearts Psychotherapy, PLLC would be honored to partner with you!

Meet Komeh Freeman

My name is Komeh Freeman and I’m the owner and lead Clinician of Healing Hearts Psychotherapy, PLLC.  I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor in Houston, TX and have provided psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults and their families for over ten years. I am also a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) in Houston, TX and a Certified Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (TF-CBT). I was born and raised in Sierra Leone-West Africa and came to the US when I was 11 years old due to a civil war in my country. I grew up in Houston and graduated from Alief Hastings High School and went on to earn my Bachelor’s degree in psychology and liberal arts from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI.  I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology—Counseling Specialization from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL. I have extensive training and experience working with childhood sexual abuse in numerous settings including the largest sexual abuse center in the country (The Children’s Assessment Center of Houston,TX), a group home for teen girls who’ve experienced sexual abuse, private practices and community mental health settings. I know firsthand what it’s like to struggle in silence with shame and to spend many years trying not to think about or talk about the childhood sexual abuse. I’ve learned over time that the first step to healing is acknowledging the pain and breaking the silence. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse I am passionate and highly committed to helping other victims get their power back and transform their lives.
